10 Most Popular Sports Cars In 2022 So Far
While they're not as popular as they once were, sports cars
still have an important place on the market. Whether you need a sports car as a
daily driver or for occasional cruises, there are tons of options available,
from the popular to the not-so-popular ones. And while they're not as
widespread as they once were, 2022 sports cars are better equipped and more
capable than ever before.
With European and Asian carmakers solidifying their presence
in America, the United States seems to be generating the highest revenue from
sports cars globally. Current projections reveal that sports car sales in the
U.S. will total $20 billion in 2022. Some cars on this list have been topping
sales charts for a couple of years now while others pull a surprise. So, here
are the best-selling sports cars for the first quarter of 2022 in the U.S.
10 Toyota GR86 -
3,257 Units Sold
Via Toyota For the 2022 GR86, Toyota refreshed almost all
parts of the car but maintained the rear-wheel drive that everyone has come to
know the sports car with. The handling is more agile for on-road rides and the
power game has been upped with the new 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that pumps
out 228 hp.
Via Toyota With all these improvements, it's no surprise
that the GR86 is doing quite well in America. As of the first quarter of 2022,
Toyota has sold about 3,257 units of the GR86 in the U.S. Another reason for
the demand for the new GR86 is fueled by the fact that there was no 2021
iteration.
9 Audi A5 - 3,841
Units Sold
Via Audi With a beautiful shape and ferocious performance,
it's almost impossible not to attract buyers regardless of the price. Whether
you opt for the coupe, convertible, or Sportback version of the A5, the
remarkable handling matches the racy appearance and offers near-SUV utility.
Via Audi But for some reason, the 2022 Audi A5 hasn't been
exactly well-received in the United States so far, selling just about 3,841
units as of March this year. Even though the 2021 iteration sold over 4,257
units in the same period, the 2022 A5 is doing quite well compared to other
brands.
8 Porsche Taycan -
1,925 Units Sold
Via Porsche With a striking look, engaging performance, and
really fast charging capabilities, the 2022 Porsche Taycan lives up to the
$84,050 price tag. With its stoic composure, high-tech interior, and lively
steering, the Porsche Taycan is a cheaper alternative to the Tesla Model S.
Via Porsche As of the first quarter of 2022, Porsche has
sold about 1,925 Taycans, which isn't bad at all but falls slightly behind the
sales figures of the 2021 iteration which sold 2,008 in the same period.
7 Porsche ,132 Units
Sold
Via Porsche Immersive and versatile sports car buyers know
that none compares to the Porsche 911 in the market. The iconic
two-plus-two-seater 911 is available in coupe, convertible and
quasi-convertible Targa forms and starts at $102,550, which is quite pricey.
Via Porsche Hence, selling over 2,132 units in just the
first three months of 2022 is a solid indicator of the incredible appeal of the
Porsche 911. If sales continue in this trajectory, Porsche may sell over 9,000
units of the 911 by the end of the year.
6 Chevrolet Camaro -
6,710 Units Sold
Via Chevrolet Whether you get the new Camaro in its coupe or
convertible form, you can't deny that it's pure fun to drive, once you can get
past the cramped interior and rather compromised outward visibility. With the
option of a 335-hp V6 or a 455-hp V8, you can unlock new levels of punchier
acceleration.
Via Chevrolet In the sales department, things are looking
quite promising for the 2022 Camaro that has sold about 6,710 units in Q1 of
2022. If sales progress at this rate, the new Chevrolet Camaro might exceed the
21,893 units sold by the end of 2021.
5 BMW 2-Series -
4,025 Units Sold
Via BMW With a stunning sporty look, exciting innovations,
and split-second responsiveness, the 2022 BMW 2-Series is as satisfying as
ever. Starting at about $37,345, the new 230i and M240i are fully connected
with the advanced iDrive 7.0 Operating System and Live Cockpit Professional for
seamless navigation and entertainment.

Via BMW Although sales figures are not as impressive as last
year, the Series has sold up to 4,025 units since the beginning of this year.
Compared to many other luxury brands, BMW is doing quite well with the sales of
the Series.
4 Chevrolet Corvette
- 8,812 Units Sold
Via Chevrolet If you need a daily driver with supercar
performance at a reasonable price, you can't go wrong with the Chevrolet
Corvette. The 2022 iteration comes in a coupe and convertible form and
Chevrolet introduced new features like the optional low-profile rear spoiler
and new fuel pump.
Via Chevrolet While many 2022 sports cars are having a tough
time outselling their 2021 versions, the 2022 Corvette does so with ease. So
far, 8,812 Corvettes have been sold and if Chevrolet can keep the momentum
going, it can hit 35,248 units by the end of the year.
3 Dodge Challenger -
11,125 Units Sold
Via mecum.com As perhaps the only two-door muscle car with
an all-wheel-drive, the 2022 Dodge Challenger gives bigwigs like the Mustang
and Camaro a run for their money. The 3.6-liter V6 on SXT puts out 303 hp but
if you need more thrill go for the R/T Scat Pack with a 485-hp 6.4-liter V8.
Via mecum.com The 2022 Challenger is off to a slow start
selling just about 11,125 units in the first quarter of the year. With the look
of things, it might not be able to outsell the 2021 Challenger, but it's still
one of the best-selling muscle cars of the year so far.
2 Dodge Charger - 15,438
Units Sold
Via Dodge For just $32,500, the 2022 Dodge Charger could be
yours with a promise of decent handling, gobs of power and so much swagger.
Under the hood, the big sedan comes with a base 300-hp V6 and various V8
configurations to meet your needs.
Via Dodge Dodge has pretty healthy numbers for the 2022
Charger, even better than the Challenger, which is slightly more affordable. So
far, the sales numbers of the 2022 Charger stands at 15,438.
1 Ford Mustang -
18,363 Units Sold
Via Ford The Ford Mustang is one of the best-selling sports
coupes in recent times, doing more numbers than the Camaro and Challenger. The
2022 Ford Mustang has sold 18,363 units so far. But compared to last year, the
2022 Mustang sales are down and the primary reason for that is production
delays, which are caused by the microchip shortage around the world.
Via Ford Another reason for the relative drop in sales is
the spike in gas prices. With the all-time high gas prices, driving a
V8-powered sports car with a combined 18 MPG isn't exactly cost-effective.
